Buying eyewear, locks and hardware from Ouhai

Ouhai carries two quite different established industries. Eyewear is a design-led, brand-sensitive category where material claims are the risk. Locks and hardware are a security category where the standard is the whole specification, and a lock that does not meet the standard your market expects is not a cheaper lock — it is a different product.

What the cluster makes

  • Optical frames — metal, acetate and injection
  • Sunglasses and lenses
  • Eyewear components, hinges and cases
  • Door locks, cylinders, padlocks and mortice locks
  • Handles, hinges and builders’ hardware

What goes wrong here specifically

Every category has its own failure modes, and they are rarely the ones a first-time buyer is watching for. These are the ones that recur in this cluster.

01

Titanium that is not titanium

Frames sold as titanium are frequently titanium alloy, titanium-plated, or an unrelated alloy entirely. The distinction matters for weight, for hypoallergenic claims and for the price you are paying. Specify the exact material and verify it independently on samples.

02

Lens standards assumed rather than tested

Sunglass lenses are regulated in most destination markets for UV protection and impact. A supplier saying lenses are "UV400" is making a claim, not producing a test result. Ask for testing against the standard your market applies.

03

Design and brand proximity in eyewear

Eyewear is one of the most aggressively protected design categories there is. Frames offered as equivalents to a well-known model carry real import risk, and the exposure lands on the importer.

04

Locks: the security grade is the product

Lock markets are standards-driven — a European cylinder standard, a domestic Chinese grade and a US grading scheme are not interchangeable, and a lock meeting one may be nowhere near another. Confirm which grade your market and your customer expect before comparing prices, because otherwise you are comparing different things.

What to verify, in order

  1. Exact material specification, verified independently on samples for any metal claim.
  2. Lens test results against the standard applying in your destination market.
  3. The lock grade or security standard your market and your customer require, in writing.
  4. Cylinder and key-control arrangements, if relevant to your customer.
  5. Whether any design closely follows a protected frame or hardware design.
  6. Plating and finish specification, with salt-spray testing where corrosion matters.

Standards that come up

Salt-spray testing (ISO 9227)Corrosion resistance for plated hardware and frames.

Factory audit · from US$450

Where to start with a supplier here

  1. Registry check — US$95. Is the entity real, and does its registered scope actually permit manufacturing? In this cluster that question does more work than anywhere else.
  2. Remote video audit — from US$450. Walk the line and the test bench, live, before the deposit.
  3. Full due diligence — from US$180. Certificates verified with issuing bodies, litigation and enforcement records, bank-account name matching.
  4. On-site and interpreting — from US$150/day. When you need someone standing in the building.
